Abstract
Introduction: Oral health is an important part of people’s physical well-being. Tooth loss is a problem that affects people in Laos in all regions. Until now, there has been a lack of data on tooth loss and related factors in rural areas of Lao PDR. Objectives: To study tooth loss among the adult population in Luangprabang Province and investigate the factors that contribute to tooth loss. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted with a sample of 440 participants. The data will be described descriptively, expressed as percentages, and factors associated with tooth loss will be analyzed using the Chi-Square test. Results: The prevalence of dental caries of the population were 61.1%, with 75.9% having periodontal disease and 74.5% experiencing tooth loss. Factors that may contribute to tooth loss include smoking (P-value ≤ 0.009), dental caries, and periodontal disease leading to dental visits in the sample population (P-value ≤ 0.001). Conclusion: The adult population living in rural areas of Luang Prabang province still experiences oral health problems, particularly a high rate of tooth loss.
